Testicular atrophy

There is some concern when using Garcinia Cambogia, or it’s active compound Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA), for testicular atrophy.

The reason for this concern is a study done on obese male Zucker rats that showed HCA supplementation caused potent testicular atrophy [1].
An earlier study done on Sprague-Dawley rats where HCA-SX (a 60% calcium-potassium salt of HCA) was supplemented shows us there has been no change in the weight of the testis [2] and thus no testicular atrophy.

Studies done on animals provide us with good indicators on what will happen in humans, but that doesn’t necessarily mean humans will respond in the same manner.

In one study where 1000 mg/day of HCA supplementation was tested on humans for 12 weeks, there were no significant changes in serum testosterone, estrone and estradiol levels [3].

This means that at this dosage there is no concern for testicular atrophy in humans and it’s considered safe to supplement with Garcinia Cambogia.
